In his pre-Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) sermon, the Rabbi asked his congregants:
“Who here is prepared to grant forgiveness to his enemies?”
Everyone raised their hands, with the exception of old man Moishe, by far the oldest one present.
“Moishe,” asked the Rabbi, “Are you not willing to forgive your enemies?”
“Rabbi, I don’t have any enemies!” responded Moishe.
“Tell me,” said the Rabbi, “exactly how old are you?”
“Rabbi, I am 100 years old.”
“Moishe, can you reveal to all of us the secret to such longevity? What do you we need to do in order to live so long?”
“It’s very simple, you don’t really need to do anything at all. The trick is to just make sure to outlive all your enemies.”
